Cyclotour of the Baroque
A varied bike tour according to your rhythms and interests through Eastern Sicily. You will cross the Val di Noto, rebuilt in the middle of the Baroque period after the terrible earthquake of 1693 and declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2003. Our tour will let you discover the Baroque cities of Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Scicli and Noto the most important Baroque city in Sicily, and Syracuse, an ancient Greek colony. The coastal areas such as the Vendicare Oasis, the Marzamemi seaside village, the Capo Passero island and the Currents island are some of the most important stages of your tour. The tours are designed for those who want to travel independently, but also want a range of services that make their cycling holiday comfortable. The holiday is proposed in tandem by allowing people with visual impairment to make the tour with their companion. A good physical shape is necessary, as some bicycle transfers exceed 50 km per day.

Arrival in Palazzolo Acreide, delivery of bikes and information material.
Before leaving, we recommend a short visit to Palazzolo Acreide. Discover the rich historical and monumental evidence of the historic center, such as the churches of San Sebastiano and San Paolo, wonderful examples of Sicilian Baroque architecture. Today you have the opportunity to cycle through the Hyblean territory; sometimes barren and wild, sometimes arboreal but always varied and of remarkable beauty, with the typical dry stone walls that delimit the various land properties. The stage stops in Ragusa Ibla- one of the most beautiful cities in the Val di Noto-located in a picturesque position on a hill and ends in Modica, the second baroque jewel of our tour. The church of San Giorgio is also particularly beautiful.
Before leaving Modica it is mandatory to taste the famous chilli chocolate made from an ancient Aztec recipe brought to Sicily by the Spaniards. Pedaling slightly down a typical Iblean quarry, you arrive in Scicli, another delightful Baroque town famous for being the place of the fiction "Il Commissario Montalbano". After the visit, cycle to Pozzallo with its long beaches that invite you to finish the stage with a refreshing swim in the sea.
Today's stage is entirely flat. Along the coast you reach the most extreme tip of the Continent, Isola delle Correnti, a watershed between the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean, at the same latitude as Tunis. Continue going from Portopalo di Capo Passero, the southernmost municipality of Europe and along the sea to Marzamemi, an ancient fishing village. The stage ends in San Lorenzo.
Set off on the plains along the coast to the north, crossing the natural oasis of Vendicari, a stop for rare migratory birds such as the pink flamingo or kingfisher. Leave this lake area pedaling inland, in the midst of vineyards in Noto, the capital of the Sicilian Baroque with numerous palaces and churches, scenic squares and imposing stairways that connect terraces and slopes.
Still on the plain, you can visit the coast northwards until you reach Syracuse, the capital of Magna Grecia. Be sure to visit the Neapolis Archaeological Park with the Greek Theater and the Roman Amphitheater. End the evening with a walk in the picturesque historic center of Syracuse, the Ortigia Island.
After breakfast end of our services. If you have booked an extension, we advise you to take more time to visit the city: the fascinating island of Ortigia, the historical and cultural center of the city, immediately shows the charm of a place that has seen success and stratify over more than three thousand years. In Ortigia there is one of the most beautiful squares in Italy, the Piazza Duomo with the cathedral, the temple of Apollo and the Arethusa fountain where the papyrus grows spontaneously.
